Nothing but water       90 cm x 90 cm

I loved painting this piece from a series simply inspired by Water. Water essentially is nothing but itself and reflects everything around it.

This oil painting is all about the lightness and refreshing nature of water helping to calm and soothe your mind. The painting is built up with thin lines of oil paints that are blended as they are are applied on with a thin metal scraper.  Viewing the painting from close up you will see how each line creates its own spectrum of blues. From a distance the painting gives you a harmonious feeling as all the blues, whites, pinks and purples merge together.

Being by the sea especially makes me feel like anything is possible. I leave feeling lighter, calmer and more connected. I take this feeling to my studio and aim to feed it into my artwork. I always feel humbled when being by any form of water feeling part of it and in awe of it at the same time.

These paintings are created over a long period of time with every line applied mindfully. I focus only on that particular line when I paint and work very close to the canvas giving all my attention to the creation of one line. The painting evolves one line at a time using this process. The focus is on the present moment (the present line) not the line that has just been created or the next line to be created.

Nothing but water reflecting the evening sky

Nothing but water reflecting the evening sky

90 cm x 90 cm

Do you love that feeling of melting away into a hot bath at the end of the day? This painting is all about the melting and merging of the day into the evening. That sense of settling in, deeply relaxing and letting go of all the tension of the day.

The colours reflect the blending of the evening sky from the top light pinks into the purples and blues towards the bottom. As you follow  them they take you deeper within the painting and yourself.

Nothing but water within the fields

Nothing but water within the fields

Do you love being surrounded by green. Being bought up central rural England I always looked forward to spring when the leaves would almost grow overnight. Taking walks around the lakes where the grass would begin to merge with the water and the water reflect the green of the trees.

This symbolises this beautiful relationship between water and land. The two cannot exist without the the other, just as we can’t exist without them.
