State of flow. What’s that then?
Well it’s nirvana for us Artists’. Getting into a state of flow is getting into the zone. It’s being so into what you are doing that you lose track of all sense of time and yourself.
We can all experience a state of flow.
Try to remember the last time you got lost into listening to your favourite playlist whilst doing a chore. Before you know it, you’re done. This is you in your zone. Your state of flow.
Achieving a state of flow is reached more easily when you are experiencing anything that you love to do. It maybe a sport. Going to see your favourite band. Gardening. Also creating something; knitting, baking. Or whatever connects with you. For me it’s making art and writing.
Reaching a state of flow has similar effects on your wellbeing as meditation does.
Once you are in a state of flow you feel a sense of peace and contentment. You are moving with ease and you have clarity in your thoughts. Monkey mind disappears and your true self comes to the forefront.
Ironically though sometimes you don’t realise you are in a state of flow until you come out of it!
However this is good. Really good as it means you are in the present moment. In the now. In the only time that counts and exists. Once you leave a state of flow you are back in what I call clock time.
Tips on how to induce a state of flow….
- Choose one activity you love to do at home.
- Turn your phone off.
- Take a couple of deep breaths
- Focus on your hands or any tools you might be using to perform your activity. This will help you stay present in the moment.
- Put all your attention and focus into the action of the activity.
By practising this in your everyday life you could increase your levels of fulfilment. What a better way to spend your day than feeling content and fulfilled with everything you do. Enjoy it.
